I am an IACP (Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
I hold a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from PCI College, Dublin, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Middlesex University, London and a Post Graduate Diploma in Adult Education from National University of Ireland (NUIM) Maynooth, Co Kildare.
I am Reality Therapy Certified by the William Glasser Institute, Ireland; Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Trained (ASIST); QPR Gatekeeper trained in Suicide Prevention; Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) trained through the University of Maryland, U.S.A and I am a member of the Teaching Council of Ireland. I am also trained in Mindfulness Based Approaches to Mental Health.
I have been engaged in one to one and couples counselling for over 10 years and I worked in the public service for over 30 years.
I operate LEARGAS Counselling, Psychotherapy and Training services from my home and I also practice at St Catherines Counselling Service, The Priory, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
I use a number of different counselling approaches including; Person Centred Therapy, Reality Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to name but a few. I will choose an approach depending on the needs of the individual client or couple and I will tailor my style to suit my clients’ needs.
Counselling and Psychotherapy is not for everyone however, if a client feels sufficiently comfortable to engage in therapy I will work with my client to identify and teach them a coping strategy, which he or she will be confident to use, both in the present, and in the future, should issues arise when therapy has finished. My clients will then be in a position to summon the information and techniques learned in therapy, to address any personal issues which may arise for them.
There is no time duration for therapy. After thrapy begins it is the client’s decision as to how long the therapy will last and when it will finish.
